Illegal mining has thrived in the major communities in Ghana from 2017 to this day.
Illegal mining is an unlawful act of removing solid valuables from the earth . Many citizens, in other to get rich over night, deprive and waste the nation’s resources with a flimsy excuse that there is a high rate of unemployment in the country , meanwhile… indefinite people engage in plantation farming , animal rearing and trading is on a high.
It has both negative and positive effects . This piece will opine the negative effects of illegal mining on our environment.
Many water bodies in Ghana such as River Densu, Prah have been destroyed as result of the poisonous substances like mercury used in this process .
Now, a lot of water companies has been shut down , because their source has been damaged . Water is now unsafe for humans , animals and plants. We send much just to render water safe .
Again, Our health is at risk , Cancer and other diseases what attack the youth this days is another consequence of . illegal mining . The air we breath ,the food we eat and everything we take in is dangerous to our health.
Not only but also , due to how profitable it was for the country to have Forest , the government of Ghana has invested much to avoid this action .
The president of Ghana, his Excellency Nana Adoo Danqua Akuffo Aidoo has met the local council of chiefs in Kumasi to know how to do away with illegal mining in Ghana and replace this with agriculture in order to protect the environment for today and the future generation.
