A devastating helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including two cabinet ministers, key government officials, and military personnel. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi crashed in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve near Adansi Sikaman.
The Deceased:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence: A key figure in Ghana’s national security, Dr. Boamah was known for his dedication to the country’s defense and security.
Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology: A respected leader in environmental conservation, Dr. Mohammed was instrumental in shaping Ghana’s environmental policies.

Investigation Underway
The Ghana Armed Forces has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, with technical teams examining the wreckage and reviewing flight data. While the exact cause remains unknown, preliminary observations suggest possible mechanical failure or adverse weather conditions.
National Mourning
President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, from Thursday, August 7, to Saturday, August 9, 2025, in honor of the deceased. Flags will be flown at half-mast nationwide, and several major events have been canceled or postponed, including the Cedi@60 celebrations and the JoySports Invitational Tournament.
As Ghana mourns the loss of these eight national treasures, the nation comes together to pay tribute to their memory and service. The investigation into the crash will continue, and the country awaits answers on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
