Things have moved from “playful teasing” to a full-blown digital war of words as Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and veteran broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere go head-to-head in a clash that has gripped the Ghanaian social media space.
What started as a viral video of the Minister jokingly interacting with a portrait of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Asokwa Interchange has spiralled into a heated debate over who actually has the “papers” to back their talk.
The Spark: From Portraits to PhDs
After the Minister’s video went viral, Paul Adom-Otchere took to his Good Evening Ghana desk to deliver one of his signature critiques. However, the broadcaster didn’t just stop at the Minister’s antics; he hit below the belt, questioning the authenticity of Dr. Amoakohene’s doctoral credentials.
The Minister’s Claps Back: “Show Us Your Law Certificate”
Dr. Amoakohene, clearly not in the mood for “lotto-style” journalism, fired back with a heavy dose of “vawulence.” During a live online session, the Minister didn’t just defend his title—he went on the offensive, labeling the broadcaster “Uncle Christmas Tree.”
“If you are going to make claims about me, at least do your due diligence,” the Minister fired. “I am a qualified medical doctor and also hold a doctorate in Medical Laboratory Sciences. I write my own exams, and I am intelligent.”
The Minister then threw a massive “challenge” back at the broadcaster, daring Adom-Otchere to stop “beating around the bush” with nicknames like “Alhaji 35” and instead prove to Ghanaians why he allegedly never finished law school.
“At 51, What Have You Achieved?”
The exchange got even more personal, with Dr. Amoakohene suggesting that Adom-Otchere’s style of journalism is “substandard” and lacks the intellectual depth required for a real academic discussion.
“He couldn’t even pronounce my name properly,” the Minister added. “I am not in a hurry for someone who, at 51, has not achieved his goals to get to know me, because I gain nothing from that.”
This has moved beyond politics and into the territory of academic pride. While Adom-Otchere is known for his “touchscreen” analysis, Dr. Amoakohene is insisting that the only thing that needs to be analyzed right now is the broadcaster’s own law school transcript.
As of now, the ball is firmly in Paul Adom-Otchere’s court. Will the broadcaster bring his certificates to the “touchscreen,” or will the “Uncle Christmas Tree” tag stick?
