ACCRA, GHANA – The legal battle surrounding popular socialite and businessman Abu Trica took a dramatic turn on Wednesday at the Gbese District Court. What began as a standard court appearance ended with the embattled businessman nearly in tears as state prosecutors hit him with nine new charges related to money laundering and criminal conspiracy.
The emotional scene was captured and detailed by seasoned court reporter Ama Brako Ampofo of Angel FM, whose reports from the courthouse have shed light on the mounting evidence against the social media figure.
A Breakdown of the New Allegations
According to the prosecution, the nine new counts are tied to nine specific financial transactions that the state alleges were fraudulently obtained. The timeline provided by the state suggests a sophisticated operation spanning several years and involving international transfers.
The court heard that the transactions included:
- April 2023: A massive receipt of $141,422.
- April 10, 2025: An alleged transfer of $50,000.
- April 26, 2025: An additional $52,000 received.
- July 2025: A transaction totaling $68,500.
- August 2025: A $20,000 transfer originating from Ohio, USA.
The “Peter Johnson” Alias and Gold Dealing Claims
One of the most damaging revelations during the hearing involved the alleged use of an alias. Prosecutors claim that Abu Trica operated under the name “Peter Johnson” to facilitate these transactions and obscure his true identity.
Furthermore, it is alleged that Trica lured his victims by posing as a legitimate gold dealer. In the instance of the August 2025 transaction from Ohio, the state argues he used this persona to gain the trust of individuals before allegedly laundering the funds through his accounts.
“The defendant was seen almost weeping in court as the details of these nine transactions were read aloud,” Ampofo noted in her report. “The state is now focusing on the conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically money laundering.”
