Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, the Government Statistician, has stressed the importance of rebuilding the structure of labour and capital in Ghana. He believes this reform will enable various sectors to operate efficiently, ultimately benefiting the country.
According to Professor Annim, despite the world’s progress in civilization and development, the current approach to productivity is outdated.
He argues that the growth in productive systems, which could boost the country’s economy, is being hindered by extractive industries. Instead of contributing to economic growth, these industries are actually reducing the country’s economic prospects.
To address this issue, Professor Annim advocates for a strategic overhaul of the productivity system. He emphasizes the need to create job opportunities and move away from forced productivity increases.
The current process of refining mineral resources, for instance, limits job opportunities. By reforming the system, Ghana can unlock its economic potential and provide more employment opportunities for its citizens.
