A High Court in Accra has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and re-declare the results for the Ablekuma North Constituency following allegations of anomalies during the collation process. The court’s decision comes after the EC initially declared the NDC candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, as the winner, but later nullified the declaration due to discrepancies in the collation process.
According to Jean Mensa, the EC Chairperson, the NDC candidate was declared the winner without the results of 62 polling stations, and the declaration was made based on incorrect calculations. The Ablekuma North constituency has 281 polling stations, but the NDC candidate was announced the winner with results from only 219 polling stations.
The NDC had taken the issue to court, arguing that the EC cannot re-collate and re-announce the winner of the election because the initial declaration of the NDC candidate as the winner is already valid.
However, the court has upheld the petitioners’ claims, citing discrepancies in the collation process as sufficient grounds for the re-collation.
