Some parents after the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) hinted to introduce Taekwondo in private schools have said the move is a step in the wrong direction that will not improve student\u2019s academic performance<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Executive Director of the Private Schools Council, Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah who disclosed the new course in a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com said his outfit has collaborated with Ghana Taekwondo Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Council also collaborated with the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, to introduce Taekwondo in \u201cPrivate \u201cSchools, so that our learners can be trained to develop mental alertness and self-defence skills,\u201d Obengfo Kwasi Gyetuah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the National Director of GNACOPS, Taekwondo or the punching and kicking techniques when introduced in private schools across the country will develop mental alertness and self-defence skills in private school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, some parents of private school students have called on the leadership of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) to suspend the introduction of the Korean form of martial arts in private schools nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parents have rather suggested that the National Private Schools Council introduce relevant courses including computer coding, software creation and robotics in schools to enhance the technological skills of prospective students,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhilst others are doing reasoning programs like computer coding, software creation, robotics etc you people are here thinking about this. Taekwondo has been an activity for some private schools for a decade now,\u201d Edward Asante said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the part of Korankye Miwasty Ebenezer, he said \u201cwhy not introduce boxing instead? we observe boxing day but don\u2019t have taekwondo day. I guess you guys should implement relevancy instead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is better than you coming back home to hear your child hasn\u2019t returned home from school and is in the hands of some kidnappers or has been attacked. Embrace it and let your kids have these defensive skills. It might be a burden but it\u2019s worth it,\u201d said Samuel Oppong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
