Awards ceremonies come and go. Trophies get handed out. Speeches get made and then everyone goes home and life continues. However, something different is happening with the SHIMEI Star Influential Awards. People are not just accepting their awards and moving on. Instead, they are taking action. They are donating and they are giving back. Moreover, they are turning recognition into real impact for young girls who need support.

Through SHIMEI’s Empowerment and Education Program, known as SEEP, the initiative continues highlighting the importance of supporting young girls through education, mentorship, and confidence-building opportunities. Recently, several individuals connected to the SHIMEI movement stepped forward with contributions aimed at making a difference. Among them was Nii Commey, founder of Stories for Change and a respected playwright. He made a donation to support SEEP’s work. According to reports, his gesture reflects the growing sense of responsibility among people inspired by the initiative’s focus on empowerment and social impact. Another meaningful act came from Theresa Bavu Darkey, who donated clothing from her brand BlackBeautyGH to girls at the Teshie Children’s Home. The donation honored the legacy of the orphanage’s founder, who had been recognized at the previous SHIMEI Star Influential Awards with the Community Influencer Award. The founder dedicated her life to caring for vulnerable girls and creating a safe, nurturing environment for them. Although she is no longer alive, her work continues inspiring others to support the children she once cared for.

Speaking during the presentation, Theresa explained that she felt moved to contribute after learning about the orphanage and the work its founder had started. Through BlackBeautyGH, she donated garments to the girls as a way of continuing that spirit of compassion. Furthermore, she wanted to remind them that they are valued and capable of achieving great things. For SHIMEI’s organizers, moments like these represent the deeper purpose behind the platform. While the awards recognize influence and achievement, they also serve as a reminder that influence can be used to uplift others. SEEP focuses on encouraging girls to pursue education, build confidence, and consider opportunities in fields traditionally dominated by men. Additionally, the initiative works with schools and communities to identify girls who need support. It provides assistance through educational resources, mentorship, and community engagement. Acts of generosity like those from Nii Commey and Theresa Bavu Darkey demonstrate how recognition can inspire a ripple effect of compassion. What begins as a moment of honor on stage can evolve into meaningful support for those who need it most.

As the SHIMEI platform continues growing, its mission remains clear. Celebrate influence while encouraging individuals to use their voices, resources, and platforms to create positive change. Ultimately, the true value of influence lies not just in being recognized, but in using that influence to uplift others and create opportunities that transform lives. The donations to SEEP prove that awards can be more than ceremonies. When done right, they can spark action. They can inspire generosity. Moreover, they can change lives for young girls who simply need someone to believe in them.
