For Irene Opare, those decades have been spent in front of cameras, on theatre stages, and bringing stories to life. The veteran Ghanaian actress sat down for an interview on Showbiz 360 and shared the journey that began when she was just a schoolgirl.

In September, she will celebrate her 60th birthday. However, her connection to acting stretches back far beyond her film career, all the way to her teenage years at Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School. It began in school plays and church performances, long before anyone outside her community knew her name. She kept performing after school ended, moving from church stages to something much bigger. Her brother, William Opare was already working as an actor with a theatre group tied to the Old Parliament House. One day, he came home with a proposal that would shape his sister’s entire future. “So one day I was home and my big brother came and was like, ‘Charlie, I’m now working with the Old Parliament House. They are looking for actors, why don’t you join us?'” she recalled during the interview. At first, she hesitated. The whole thing felt overwhelming. “I was like, really? But I’m just a small girl,” she remembered thinking. Still, she said yes. That decision led her to join the ICE Department at the Old Parliament House, where she became part of a theatre group with a unique responsibility. During the administration of former president Jerry John Rawlings, the group traveled across the country staging performances before Rawlings addressed crowds. Their job was to warm up the audience through drama and theatrical displays. It was hard work and also invaluable training. Night after night, she learned how to command attention, how to connect with an audience, and how to perform under pressure. Those years built the foundation for everything that came after.”The experience gave me a solid foundation in performance and helped shape my confidence as an actress,” she explained.

Theatre eventually opened the door to television. She landed a role on Sunday Theatre, a program that was wildly popular at the time. From there, opportunities multiplied. Film producers noticed her work. Directors wanted her in their projects. Before long, she was transitioning from stage performances to major film roles. Over the years, Irene Opare has appeared in dozens of productions. Her filmography includes titles like The Mask, Robbing Peter, and Ataara, among many others. She has worked alongside some of Ghana’s biggest names in entertainment and has become a respected figure in the industry.

Now approaching her 60th birthday, she looks back at 45 years in acting with a mix of pride and gratitude. She has watched the industry change. She has seen new stars rise and old ones fade. Through it all, she has remained relevant, continuing to take on roles and contribute to Ghanaian cinema. Her story is a reminder that many of Ghana’s biggest entertainment figures did not start with fame or fortune. Instead, they started in schools, churches, and community theatres. They showed up, they practiced. They took chances when opportunities appeared.Forty-five years later, she is still here. Still reminding younger performers that longevity in this industry requires passion, discipline, and a willingness to start small and dream big.Follow Gistme.net for more stories on Ghanaian entertainment legends.

Veteran Ghanaian actress Irene Opare, who turns 60 in September, has revealed she has been acting for 45 years, starting from Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School before moving to church performances.

[1

post-6532","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-latest
["GET
