The gesture sounds generous on the surface. However, not everyone is impressed.

Paul Kwabena Yandoh, Ashanti Regional NPP Communications Director, has openly challenged the billionaire businessman to do more. According to him, the old jet is not good enough. Instead, Yandoh wants Mahama to donate his newly acquired Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft, which reportedly cost $70 million. “If Ibrahim Mahama really wants to help Ghanaians, he should give us his new private jet instead of the old one,” Yandoh said during an interview on Angel FM. His comments have sparked debate across social media, with some calling him ungrateful and others questioning whether the old jet is truly fit for emergency medical use. Yandoh raised concerns about the condition of the donated aircraft, suggesting that years of use may have compromised its safety. “The old jet’s engine, tyres, and brake pads may no longer be fully reliable, so using it to save lives might be risky. We need the new one if he truly wants to help us save lives,” he argued. Furthermore, Yandoh called on Mahama to make the emergency contact number public. According to him, ordinary Ghanaians, especially those in remote areas, need to know how to access the air ambulance service. “Also, the emergency contact number he wants people to call should be made public. That way, everyone will know: if I need the plane for my treatment, I can call,” he added. He then asked a pointed question. “How will a cocoa farmer even contact the plane to pick them up otherwise?” The criticism comes just days after Ibrahim Mahama took delivery of his new Bombardier Global 6500 on March 3, 2026. The aircraft, which is one of the most advanced private jets in the world, features luxury interiors, long-range capabilities, and cutting-edge technology. It represents a significant upgrade from his older Bombardier 604, nicknamed “Dzata,” which he has now dedicated for public emergency medical use. For Mahama, the donation of the old jet was framed as a patriotic gesture aimed at improving Ghana’s healthcare system. An air ambulance could potentially save lives by reducing travel time to hospitals.Nevertheless, critics like Yandoh argue that the donation should have been more substantial. They point out that Mahama can afford to give up his new jet, especially since he has the resources to acquire another one if needed. In their view, donating the old aircraft while keeping the brand-new $70 million jet sends the wrong message.

Supporters of Ibrahim Mahama have fired back, accusing Yandoh of being ungrateful and politicizing a charitable act. They argue that any donation, regardless of the aircraft’s age, is better than nothing. Moreover, they note that even the older Bombardier 604 is a sophisticated machine capable of performing medical evacuations if properly maintained. The debate has also reignited broader conversations about wealth, charity, and expectations in Ghana. Some Ghanaians believe that billionaires have a responsibility to give back to society in meaningful ways. Others argue that no one should be pressured into giving more than they choose to offer. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Mahama has not responded publicly to Yandoh’s comments. It remains unclear whether he will address the criticism or simply move forward with the air ambulance project using the donated aircraft. Is donating an old private jet enough? Or should Ghana’s wealthiest citizens be expected to give their best, not just what they no longer need?Follow Gistme.net for more updates on this developing story.

NPP’s Paul Kwabena Yandoh has challenged businessman Ibrahim Mahama to donate his newly acquired $70 million Bombardier Global 6500 instead of his old private jet for Ghana’s air ambulance service.

[1

post-6500","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-latest
["GET
