All located in Cairo’s most exclusive neighborhoods. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has traced these properties to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai. Investigators believe he acquired them while still in office.

According to multiple reports, the ICPC discovered the assets during its ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during el-Rufai’s administration between 2015 and 2023. Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that the properties sit in some of Cairo’s most expensive estates. These include Arabilla Estate, Banafsik Estate, Oriana Estate, and Cairo Festival City in New Cairo. Market checks show that villas in these areas sell for between $1 million and $1.3 million each. Meanwhile, apartments in Cairo Festival City are valued at approximately $500,000 per unit. If accurate, the total value of the nine properties could exceed $6 million. This raises serious questions about how a state governor accumulated such wealth abroad. Investigators reportedly believe el-Rufai purchased the properties between 2021 and 2023. During this period, he was still serving as Kaduna State governor.

This timing is significant because, it suggests the acquisitions happened while el-Rufai held public office and earned a government salary. The ICPC has not yet publicly confirmed how el-Rufai allegedly financed these purchases. However, the commission continues to investigate his financial records from his time in office. The former governor has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Furthermore, he insists the investigation is politically motivated. El-Rufai claims he is being targeted because of his political affiliations. He maintains that all the allegations against him are false and designed to damage his reputation. In response to the probe, el-Rufai has taken legal action against the ICPC. He filed a lawsuit challenging the commission’s search of his Abuja residence in February 2025. Additionally, he is seeking ₦1 billion in damages. According to his legal team, this amount covers unlawful invasion and violation of his fundamental rights. The Egypt properties are just one aspect of the ongoing probe. The ICPC has been investigating el-Rufai since he left office in May 2023. Before the ICPC took over, other security agencies had questioned him. These include the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services. El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 2025. He remains under investigation for alleged financial misconduct during his eight-year tenure as Kaduna governor. The commission has not announced when it will conclude its investigation. Nevertheless, the discovery of foreign properties has intensified public scrutiny of el-Rufai’s finances. For now, Nigerians are watching closely as the case unfolds. The outcome could set an important precedent for how former governors are held accountable for their time in office.

Stay with Gistme.net for updates on this developing story.

The ICPC has traced three villas and six apartments in Cairo, Egypt to former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai.

[1

post-6456","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-latest
["GET
