Veteran Nollywood actress and preacher Eucharia Anunobi stopped the hosts of The Honest Bunch Podcast mid-introduction. They had tried to welcome her using a name she says no longer exists.

During the episode, the host attempted to introduce her as “Eucharia Anunobi Ekwu.” The actress immediately cut him off. Moreover, she made it clear she would not accept anything less than her full, correct title. Anunobi did not mince words. She firmly corrected the hosts and set the record straight. “If you want to introduce me, you introduce me properly,” she said. “I am, and remain, Apostle Dr. Eucharia Anunobi.” She explained that the sumame “Ekwu” came from a past relationship. According to her, that relationship has since been dissolved. Furthermore, the name has been completely removed from her life. The actress made it clear she wanted no association with that chapter of her life. In addition, she insisted the hosts use only her current name moving forward.

Beyond the name correction, Anunobi also addressed her academic credentials. She stressed that her doctorate degree is not honorary but one she earned through rigorous study, “My doctorate degree is not an honorarium; it is academic. I had worked, I labored, I’m schooled and when I mean schooled, I mean schooled,” she stated. According to reports, the 60-year-old preacher obtained her PhD from Kingdom Life Bible College and Seminary International. She emphasized that the qualification came from deliberate effort and dedication. Consequently, she expects people to acknowledge the work she put in. For her, the moment was not simply about a title. Instead, it was about recognizing the journey behind every part of the name she uses today. Anunobi also highlighted her achievements in the Nigerian film industry. She described herself as more than just a superstar. Nevertheless, she made it clear her identity now extends far beyond acting.

She rose to fame in the 1990s and became one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses. However, she later transitioned into full-time ministry and now identifies primarily as an apostle and preacher. Her correction during the podcast briefly paused the conversation. Despite this, it quickly became the highlight of the episode once clips reached social media. Nigerians had mixed reactions to the viral moment. Some praised her for standing firm on her identity and credentials. Meanwhile, others found the correction unnecessarily harsh. Many social media users pointed out that the hosts likely made an honest mistake. Still, supporters of the actress argued she had every right to insist on being addressed correctly. The clip has since gone viral across Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok. Additionally, it has sparked debates about respect, titles, and how public figures expect to be addressed. For Eucharia Anunobi, the message was simple. She has worked hard for her credentials. Therefore, she expects people to use them. Furthermore, she has moved on from her past. Consequently, she will not tolerate being addressed by names she no longer claims.
