Monday was supposed to be just another day for the four victims. They had no way of knowing they would be dragged into a forest, held at gunpoint, and forced to wait in terror while their families scrambled to raise ransom money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately for them, Nigerian troops had other plans. In what marks another successful operation against kidnapping rings terrorizing Edo State, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade under 2 Division, working alongside the Edo State Security Corps, neutralized a notorious kidnapper and rescued all four victims during separate operations carried out in Warake Forest, Auchi Local Government Area, and Ujemen in Esan West Local Government Area. The announcement came from Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 4 Brigade Nigerian Army in Benin City, who disclosed the details in a statement released on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. “Troops of 4 Brigade under 2 Division Nigerian Army in collaboration with Edo State Security Corps have neutralised a notorious kidnapper, rescued four people who were kidnapped in Warake Forest and arrested a suspected kidnapper in separate operations in Edo State,” <\/em>the statement read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operations were conducted under Operation IGBO DANU 1, the ongoing military initiative designed to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of violent crime that have plagued parts of the state in recent months. Warake Forest has become a known hotspot for kidnapping gangs who use the dense vegetation to their advantage, hiding victims while negotiating ransoms with desperate families. But the Nigerian Army’s increasing presence and intelligence-driven operations in the area are beginning to turn the tide.The neutralization of the kidnapper during the rescue operation sends a clear message that hiding in the forest is no longer a guarantee of safety for criminals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the rescue, troops also arrested another suspect in a separate operation in Ujemen, Esan West LGA. Details about this suspect, including potential links to the kidnapping ring operating in Warake Forest, have not been disclosed at this time. Kidnapping for ransom has become a disturbingly common occurrence across Nigeria, with criminal gangs targeting travelers on highways, commuters in rural areas, and even residents in their homes. Edo State has not been spared from this trend, though coordinated efforts between military and state security agencies have begun yielding results. For the four rescued victims, the nightmare is over. For their families, the relief is immeasurable. But for many others across Nigeria, the fear rInvestigations are expected to continue as authorities work to dismantle the broader kidnapping network operating in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
