Mrs. Florence Kuukyi, Director of the Public Health Sector, has called on President John Mahama to address the neglect of the environmental and sanitation sector in Ghana. In a recent radio interview, Kuukyi emphasized that environmental health and sanitation workers play a crucial role in the country’s development, yet they are paid minimal wages for their services.

Kuukyi stressed that the government’s neglect of the environmental sector has severe consequences, including the degradation of the environment and the health of citizens. She argued that a clean and well-maintained environment is essential for the comfort and well-being of the population, whereas a dirty environment can lead to respiratory problems and other health issues.

To address these challenges, Kuukyi urged the government to make the environmental sector a priority in their development plans. This would involve providing adequate funding and resources to support the work of environmental health and sanitation workers.

Ghana’s environmental challenges are well-documented, with issues such as air and water pollution, deforestation, and waste management posing significant threats to the country’s development.

By prioritizing the environmental sector, the government can take a crucial step towards addressing these challenges and promoting sustainable development.
